If you’re interested in showcasing your visual projects in 3D, you’ve likely heard of 360 virtual tours and 3D renders. While these terms may sound similar, they actually refer to very different things. In this article, we’ll explain the main differences between these two concepts so that you can better understand them and decide which one is right for your project.
Let’s start with the 360 virtual tour. This is a virtual environment in which we can move freely without a predefined itinerary. It can feature a real or fictional environment, modeled in 3D with great detail. We can explore this environment with a mouse, through virtual reality goggles, or another device that supports this tour. 360 virtual tours are very useful for presenting architectural projects, as they allow us to showcase the 3D space in a very realistic way. Additionally, they can include additional information such as tags or descriptions to help us better understand what we’re seeing.
On the other hand, a 3D render is a digital image generated from a 3D model or three-dimensional scene. This image is rendered through a rendering engine and translates into a static digital photo. To achieve a realistic result, various processes are worked on to generate a sense of depth, texture, the different elements of the image, and generate different lighting effects. The goal is to generate a realistic static image from any perspective of the model.
As for 360 panoramas, these are equirectangular images taken with a digital or real 360-degree camera from a fixed static point. They are various photographs that can be real or virtual, pasted together in the shape of a sphere. In them, we are located in the center, allowing us to see the entire environment in 360 degrees from the fixed point where we are located, without moving around.
As you can see, 360 virtual tours, 3D renders, and 360 panoramas are very different concepts that are used for different purposes. 360 virtual tours are ideal for presenting architectural projects, while 3D renders are more useful for generating realistic static images of any three-dimensional model. On the other hand, 360 panoramas are excellent for showing a 360-degree environment from a fixed point.
If you’re interested in showcasing your visual projects in 3D, it’s important to understand the differences between 360 virtual tours, 3D renders, and 360 panoramas. This way, you can decide which of these concepts is most appropriate for your project and achieve the results you’re looking for effectively and professionally.
